First Aid Awareness

First Aid Awareness

A guidance programme on First Aid was conducted by A.J. Hospital and Research Centre on January 30, 2016 for Class IX students in the school premises. Mr. Sreedhar, a trauma expert at A. J. Hospital was the resource person for the day. He was given a warm welcome by the staff and students.

In the first segment, Mr. Sreedhar posed a question ‘what do you know about First Aid?’ In medical terms he explained the meaning, aims and priorities of First Aid measures. Further, he told the students about different kinds of emergency situations like shock, bleeding, heart attack, stroke and snakebite and various ways to respond to them.

It helped the students in understanding the concept on how to respond calmly and quickly in an emergency situation. They also realized the importance of being vigilant if they come across any emergency in their life.

He explained in detail the Basic Life Support measures via Cardio Pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and demonstrated it with the help of mannequins. The visual teaching application in turn helped the students understand the concept better.

The students were enthusiastic and inquisitive to know more on a subject like this which was interesting and educative at the same time. He welcomed the questions and cleared the doubts raised by them. A lighter moment was shared when one of the students mentioned that it was indeed a wonderful session and hope he gets to be a ‘life saver’ in future.

The last segment of the session was a DIY (Do It Yourself) wherein the students got a chance to come forward and get themselves acquainted by trying it out themselves. The students got to practice the various First Aid steps.

The students had an enriching and fruitful session. They vowed to put into practice what they have learnt and spread the same among their family and friends. Ms. Rhea welcomed the gathering and Ms. Pratheeksha delivered the vote of thanks.
