Sports Day – 2015

The collective sportive energy of Mount Carmel Central School gained momentum on October 28, 2015 at Mangala Stadium Mangalore which motivated its athletes to stand in position with pride and honour for the March Parade at 8.30 am. The school band with its rhythm and beat gave a musical vibe to the welcoming of the Chief Guest, the Mayor of Mangalore City Mrs. Jacintha Vijay Alfred, for the inaugural ceremony.

The hoisting of the flag, the torch bearers running round the arena igniting the flame higher and higher and the colourful sway of the parade brought in confidence and a feeling of success to all present at the stadium. The Sports Minister – Aaran San D’Souza led the athletes in the oath taking ceremony after which the chief guest declared the Sports Meet open and enthused the players with her inspiring message.

The much awaited events commenced with the finals of the 1500 mtr race for senior boys and girls, followed by the heats of 200 and 100 mtr race for all the categories. Long jump and short put events were also conducted simultaneously. The highlight of the day was the 400 mtr Relay which was lustily cheered and applauded by the audience.

The valedictory function began at 2:45 pm. Dr. Shivendra Pratap Singh Tomer, Deputy Commandant, CISF, Mangalore was the Chief Guest. After his brief, inspiring and encouraging address to the students there was the felicitation ceremony for the winners of the sports meet. The individual champions were Cyrus Wong of Class XII and Tanvi Shetty of Class XI in the Senior Category, Aman H.A. of Class IX A and Hima Shetty of Class VIII A in the Intermediate Category, Shriya Naik of Class VI B and Sohan Floyd Lobo of Class VII A in the Junior category and Sahan of IV C and Rochelle of Class V C in the sub-junior category. The overall championship was bagged by the Tulips and runners up by Anthuriums. The winners of CBSE Zonal level Athletic Meet of Davangere, Hima Shetty and Hita Shetty were also honoured on this occasion.

The Sports Meet 2015 came to a close on a gay note. The school flag was lowered and the sports stars paraded it with dignity and reverence as a sign of closing the current year’s Sports Meet. The Principal officially closed the Sports Meet of the year 2015 after receiving the school flag, to carry on the meet for the coming year 2016. The flame was put off.

All dispersed with smiling faces and with joy and excitement for it was indeed a day with a good start and a promising end.
