AICS Inter School Cultural Competitions

The AICS Inter School Cultural Competitions – Carmel Ingenium 2019 for D.K district was inaugurated in our school on the morning of 27th July 2019 in the school auditorium.

The Chief Guest, NRI Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu, the members of the management, the Vice President of the PTA Ms. Nisha Albuquerque, along with the Principal Sr. Melissa A.C. were welcomed with the traditional cultural ‘Shingari Melam’, the ceremonial beating of drums and escorted to the venue for the inaugural function.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with a devotional song by the school choir, which was followed by a graceful dance to welcome the gathering. Sr. Melissa further brightened the ambience with her warm words of welcome and encouragement, wishing all the participants well in their competitions, and introduced the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu, of Indian and Amercian dual citizenship, has carved a niche for himself in both India and the States, and has to his honour, a road named after him in the United States of America. Addressing the gathering, he introduced himself as ‘an artist of Indian Culture’ and urged all gathered to uphold their traditions and culture wherever they may go.

The dignitaries on the dais then gathered around the ‘Treasure Bonanza’ which was opened by the Chief Guest to declare the Cultural Competitions open.

The ceremony ended with a vibrant vote of thanks by Master Vedanth Rao. The programme was compeered by two very lively and energetic emcees, Nathan and Bhoomika.

Various events commenced soon after the inaugural and around 600 students from 25 CBSE and ICSE schools of D.K participated in them enthusiastically. The whole campus reverberated with a competitive spirit among the students.

The Competitions came to an end in the evening around 5.00 pm. The individual events held were Paint your Pot, Cartoonscape, The Carve, Sugama Sangeetha, Mono Act and Mock Press while the group events were Nukkad Natak, Comedy Act, Cultural Splash and Qawwali.

The Valedictory function commenced with a prayer dance soothing the spirits of the audience after the hustle bustle of the day. Vice Principal, Sr. Lidwyn Pinto welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest Mr. RJ Arpith, who addressed the audience and encouraged the participants saying, ‘Every participation is an experience to success and hence not to get disappointed if not won a prize in the day’s events’.

The Competitions clearly highlighted the true spirit of participation and the effort of each school, which was evident in the quality of their presentation. The Principal thanked the students who took part in various events as well as the staff for their active cooperation in making the event a stupendous success.

The last and most eagerly awaited moment of the day was the Prize Distribution ceremony. There was pin-drop silence and an atmosphere of tense anticipation. The dignitaries on the dais honoured the winners of various individual and group events and the Chief Guest RJ Arpith gave away the Overall Championship Trophies amidst deafening applause and cheering.

The Junior Category Overall Championship Trophy was bagged by SDM CBSE School, Ujire followed by Cambridge school, Mangaluru as Runner up. In the Senior Category, Mount Carmel Central School were the Champions and Carmel School, Mangaluru were the Runner Up.

The student coordinator of the AICS Cultural Competitions, Master Glen Sequeira emceed the programme and Minister for Culture Activities of the School Master Craig DSouza delivered the Vote of thanks.
