Children’s Chess Carnival 2025

The Children’s Chess Carnival 2025, hosted by Derik’s Chess School in collaboration with our School, was a resounding success. Held on January 5, 2025 in the school auditorium, it brought together hundreds of young chess enthusiasts, showcasing their skills in a competitive and exciting atmosphere.

The inauguration featured dignitaries including Dr Gerald Santhosh DSouza, Director of Physical Education, Mangalore University; Sr Melissa, Principal; Mr Derik Pinto, Founder and Director of Derik’s Chess School and Mr Prasanna Rao, Administrator of DCS. The ceremony began with a prayer by the school choir and a lively welcome dance. Dr Gerald DSouza inaugurated the tournament with a symbolic first move, joined by other dignitaries. In his address, he congratulated MCCS and DCS for their efforts in promoting Chess, a profound exercise of the mind and inspired the young participants to approach the game with focus and strategy. Sr Melissa’s blessings and the Chief Referee’s explanation of the tournament rules ensured a fair and engaging competition. The event concluded with Mr Derik Pinto presenting mementos to the dignitaries, setting an energetic tone for the day ahead.

The tournament was a true display of skill and dedication, with young players demonstrating critical thinking and strategic planning. The valedictory event began with the welcoming of dignitaries Dr Rajeev, Director of Physical Education at Kasturba Medical College, Principal Sr Melissa, Mr Derik and Mr Prasanna. The prize distribution ceremony honoured the winners in various categories with Dr Rajeev and Principal Sr Melissa presenting the awards. The overall championship was bagged by Mount Carmel Central School, the 1st runner up by Lourdes Central School and 2nd runner up by St Theresa’s School. Recognition was also given to referees, staff and NCC cadets for their assistance in the smooth conduct of the tournament.

Mr Derik Pinto expressed gratitude to all involved, emphasizing the collective effort that made the event successful. The carnival concluded with a sense of accomplishment and inspiration, encouraging participants to continue developing their skills with patience and perseverance.
