Gandhi Jayanthi Celebration – Clean India Drive 2016

On October 1st, 2016 students of class II hosted the celebration of the birth of Mahatma Gandhiji for the students of Nursery to Class III. The programme began with the Word of God followed by a prayer song “Make me a channel of peace”. The lighting of the lamp prayerfully by the chief guest Dr. Vidhyashree Kamath and Sr. Reshma intensified the need of peace and harmony in the society.

The children beautifully brought out the significance of the day through various slogans. Some danced to the tune of the song ‘Bande Mein Tha Dam…..Vande Matharam’. Our honourable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi’s ‘Swatch Bharath Abhiyan’ which has inspired every Indian to keep their homes, work places and surroundings clean, was beautifully brought out through a skit. To add on to this, the students enthusiastically showed the power of unity through a dance on ‘Sathya Meva Jayathe’.

The chief guest Dr. Vidhyashree Kamath, addressed the students with a famous quote by Mahatma Gandhi, ‘Happiness is what you think, say and do’. In her message she stressed on respecting every human being and their values, stay in harmony with every one, be positive in your thinking .She also stressed not to harm any animals. She concluded her message by quoting Mahatma Gandhiji’s words which says’ Keep your thoughts positive, because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habit. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.’

This was followed by the programme by Class VI B and C for the students of Classes IV to X. According to Mahatma Gandhi prayer is not asking it is a longing of the soul. It is daily admissions of the one’s weaknesses. The programme began with a prayer service followed by prayer dance. Principal Sr. Melissa along with a few senior teachers and student representatives garlanded the photo of Gandhiji and lighted the Diya showing respect and honour to the Father of our Nation.

Jesicca Liana Miranda welcomed the gathering. Glen Dwilight D’Silva and Fey highlighted the significance of Gandhi Jayanthi and SWACH BHARATH SWACH VIDYALAYA ABIYAN. Ghandiji’s life story from his birth till his death was depicted meaningfully through the skit and dance drama. Gandiji stood for values. Children highlighted the values of non-violence, peace, tolerance through these meaningful items.

Principal Sr. Melissa enlightened the students with her inspiring words. She advised the students to inculcate the values of Bapuji and to practice these values in their life. She also emphasized that our culture and way of life may change but values remain the same. Gavin Marian Sequeira proposed the vote of thanks. The programme ended with National Anthem. Dave Sylvester Vas Naik and Varsha Varghese compeered the programme. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji’s speech on Swachh Bharath Mission was played and a song on Swachh Bharath was sung by a group of students.

After the formal programme, each class was assigned a definite portion to be cleaned up. Classes 1 to 3 cleaned their classrooms, Classes 4 to 7 took charge of cleaning their classrooms, additional rooms, labs and corridors while class 8 to 12, the public roads, bus stand near the school. Teachers and children with thrash bags carried out this Clean India Drive with all enthusiasm to keep our school and neighborhood clean, thereby contributing to the cleanliness of our beloved country.
