24 Jul Shiksha Saptah 2024 : Day 3 – Sports Day
On Wednesday, July 24, we organized various indigenous games as part of the Shiksha Saptah – Day 3.
170 students of kindergarten to primary section and 328 students of middle school to secondary section along with their teachers took part in the various games activities aimed to inculcate a sense of cultural pride and familiarized the students with local indigenous games. The friendly matches helped the learners to know the local sports and their fitness value.
It was thrilling to watch
- the little ones of the LKG playing the Kere Dada (passing the ball);
- Boys of Grade 1 playing ‘hagga jaggatta (tug of war)’ while Girls of Grade 1 enjoyed a game of ‘Dog and the bone’
- The boys of Grade 4 were enthusiastic to play Football while the girls of Grade 4 and grade 7 contrasted with the traditionally popular game ‘Lagori (Seven tiles)’.
- Students of Grade 3 were kept enthralled while playing the hoop rolling, Daadi game and indoor Carrom game.
- Grade 2 students were engrossed in games like ‘Chenne mane (aliguli mane)’, Ludo and fun games of Lion and Cow
- Grade 10 students played Kabaddi, a group game which originated in the ancient Tamizh region of the Indian subcontinent, which is predominantly present in Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and parts of other South Indian states of India.
- Students of grade 9 enjoyed Surr (Kho Kho), the second-most popular traditional tag game in the Indian subcontinent after kabaddi. While grade 8 enthusiastically took part and learnt more about the Dhopkhel game, Sankuli for grade 6 and hoop rolling for grade 5 was enjoyed by the students of the respective classes.
The entire day was dedicated to the indigenous sports activities which helped to foster holistic development thereby promoting physical and psychological well-being of the learners.
The meticulous planning and implementation of the games by the kindergarten teachers and the school’s five P.E teachers was worth noting.
