11 Jun World Environment Day – 2016
To raise global awareness in taking positive environmental action and protecting nature, the members of the Young Global Citizens Club took the initiative of celebrating the “World Environment Day” on June 11, 2016.
The programme revolved around the theme ‘GO WILD FOR LIFE’ portraying the issue of illegal trade in wildlife. Sr. Maria Jyothi A.C., Joint Secretary of the school was the chief guest for the day.
The event began by invoking Almighty’s blessings for our Mother Nature followed by the welcome address. The students then brought out the significance of the day and the theme was well highlighted through a power-point presentation.
The cultural programme began with a role play which depicted the increasing need for waste management and created awareness on proper disposal of domestic wastes. ‘Nature- Then and Now’ was well expressed through the dance which left the audience enraptured.
Sr. Maria Jyothi A.C. in her address to the audience spoke about the ‘human responsibility’ towards the environment. She also stressed on the need to nurture and conserve nature and minimize the use of things produced by the skins of wild animals being the theme of the year – Go Wild for Life.
The nightingales of the club then sang a song wigging the audience to conserve nature. The programme was enriching and educated the students of the need to conserve the wildlife and to maintain cleanliness.
At the end of the programme, the day being Anti Child Labour Day, the Principal Sr. Melissa A.C. led the students to take an oath that they will do their best to abolish Child labour in their houses and surroundings.
